We have started a new curriculum for 2009. I decided to go with Sonlight since Grant is needing to get into reading a little more. Sonlight is more structured for the both of us. No more lesson planning and slacking. Best of all the curriculum is based around all things biblical.
We are off to a slow start for 1st Grade but with Sonlight I am able to combine 1st and 2nd grade material to get him on track. I am excited and Grant is in for a treat! I love the idea of homeschooling. We can keep God in the curriculum and proceed at a comfortable pace for each child.
For the time being we have put Gabriela in 1/2 day Pre-K at a local private facility. Having her here for our 1st year has been a little challenging. She is really outgoing and social. She refused to let me work with Grant and her assignments were "for babies" according to her. She wanted to go big girl stuff like "dress up, make up, dance and sing", all while Grant was trying to read. Who new girls enjoyed that stuff. I thought she would be the one to enjoy creating lap books, instead Grant was creating lap books with her curriculum.
The joy of this is that Gabriela actually participates during Pre-K. She refused to write an A for me but she "breezed through it" according to her teacher. Maybe its the competition in class or maybe she thinks I should do it for her. Either way, we are able to accomplish our goals....now.
I purchased all the Five in a Row books for her and they will not go to waste! Since she is only gone half a day we gather together when she gets home to read, color and make our lap books. The extra bonus is that Grant will read the books to us!
We all win! Hopefully by summer time she will be ready to pay attention and work with us for Kindergarten.
